They say Humpty Dumpty fell off of a wall,
was he pushed at all?
Little bo peep lost her sheep,
and her loss was exploited for young children to hear.
Is the spider really the one who should have felt fear?
Could the beauty really be the beast?
Or was it Goldilocks who ruined the 3 bears' feast?
Poor, poor Hansel and Gretel,
the victims of attempted canibalism.
Didn't that witch know that people would miss 'em?
Fairy tales that rhyme,
we hear them all the time.
its time to face the lies,
Are these stories what we really want for bedtime?

You see, (I found this out quite recently) the stories of children almost coming to horrible ends in forests weren't just random tales; during that era there was a type of fungus that was growing on the wheat most people ate. It drove them mad, and they would kill or rape anyone they found, completely consumed by it. These fairy tales were a very dilute way of keeping children from wandering the woods alone, but with endsing that, considering the state most people lived, could be considered quite happy.
